How to write a successful grant application for the Instrumentarium Science Foundation?

The Instrumentarium Science Foundation's grant application for the year 2025 opened on August 1 and continues until September 15. What kind of grant application should you submit to the science foundation? Read these tips.
I have worked as the secretary for the Instrumentarium Science Foundation since 2018, and I have had the pleasure of observing and supporting many significant research projects. Additionally, I have gathered extensive experience in processing funding applications at Tekes, Business Finland, and the Academy of Finland. Working with these various organizations has given me a good understanding of what a successful grant application requires.
All different grant applications share one piece of advice above all others, a piece of advice that cannot be emphasized enough: carefully read the application guidelines and follow each funder's slightly different instructions as precisely as possible. Each funder has its own specific criteria and preferences that reflect their priorities and goals. Therefore, one and the same application usually does not suit multiple different funders. Instead, it is advisable to tailor your application to meet the specific requirements and expectations of each funder.
What kind of projects does the science foundation fund?
You can apply for grants from the Instrumentarium Science Foundation for research related to medical, technical, and natural sciences equipment and methods, as well as economic research in these fields. The science foundation particularly supports innovative projects that improve healthcare and patient well-being by advancing the development of medical devices and methods.
The Instrumentarium Science Foundation can also fund other research projects related to natural sciences and technology. However, these projects must also be specifically related to research and development focused on medicine and medical equipment. This focus ensures that the projects we fund bring concrete improvements to the healthcare field.
Does your application meet the basic criteria?
Before filling out the application form, please ensure that your application meets the foundation's basic criteria. This ensures that your application will be processed smoothly and that it aligns with our funding objectives. A well-prepared application that follows the foundation's guidelines significantly increases your chances of receiving funding. Remember to include your CV and a list of publications.
The Instrumentarium Science Foundation is committed to supporting significant scientific breakthroughs and innovations. By applying for a grant from us, you join a group of pioneers striving to improve healthcare technologies and methods. Be precise and careful when drafting your application – this way, you can ensure that your excellent research idea receives the attention and funding it deserves.
The title and summary of your application are crucial
At the science foundation, your grant application is reviewed by two experts who are most familiar with your topic and related research. Therefore, it is essential that your application's title and summary convey all the essential information about your research project concisely. A title that is too cryptic or verbose can cause confusion during the allocation process, meaning that even a significant research topic may not receive the attention it deserves. Consequently, your application may end up with an expert who does not have sufficient familiarity with the research topic and its challenges.
Today, the rapid development of artificial intelligence offers new opportunities to streamline research and application processes. You can utilize AI in many ways when filling out a grant application. Conversing with AI can lead to new perspectives or help clarify your thoughts. AI can offer suggestions for improving the application's formatting, such as organizing the title and summary, checking grammar, and refining sentences. However, it is important to remember that AI is an aid but not a substitute for your own thinking and expertise. Ensure that you have enough time to fill out the application form carefully and gather the necessary attachments.
