Over 400 grant applications submitted for 2025 funding

The Instrumentarium Science Foundation's grant application period for 2025 has now ended. A total of 423 applications were submitted, with nearly 15 million euros requested in funding.

The Instrumentarium Science Foundation's grant application period for 2025 closed on September 15, 2024. A total of 423 applications were submitted, requesting nearly 15 million euros in funding. The foundation has allocated 1.5 million euros for grants, which will support research in the fields of medicine, medical technology, as well as related natural sciences and economics.

The foundation will also award post-doctoral grants for researchers going abroad and those coming to Finland. In addition, 150,000-euro Fellow grants and 50,000-euro Silmu grants will be distributed.

The majority of applications came from the field of medicine, with 197 applications requesting approximately 6.7 million euros. The natural sciences field saw 157 applications, requesting nearly 6 million euros in total. Technology received 59 applications, requesting around 2 million euros, while economics had 10 applications, requesting a total of 260,000 euros.

  • Fellowship: 28 applications (€3.5 million)
  • Post-doc – incoming: 23 applications (€1.3 million)
  • Post-doc – outgoing: 24 applications (€1.7 million)
  • Silmu: 10 applications (€0.5 million)
  • Doctoral research: 338 applications (€8 million)
The evaluation process will begin in October, and funding decisions will be announced in January 2025.

The grants will be officially awarded at a ceremony in Helsinki on February 12, 2025. Be sure to mark the date in your calendar.
