Professor Olli Kallioniemi joins the Board of the Science Foundation

Professor Olli Kallioniemi, Research Director at the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) and Professor of Molecular Medicine, has been appointed as a new member of the Board of the Instrumentarium Science Foundation.

Olli Kallioniemi began his term on the Foundation’s Board in June 2025. He is recognized as a pioneer in molecular precision medicine and, together with his research teams, has developed methods for utilizing molecular data in disease diagnosis and treatment.

Currently, Kallioniemi serves as the Research Director of FIMM at the University of Helsinki and as a part-time Professor of Molecular Medicine at the Karolinska Institutet. Over the past two decades, he has held several prominent research leadership positions, including his earlier role as Director of FIMM from 2007 to 2015 and later as Director of the Science for Life Laboratory in Sweden.

Kallioniemi’s research focuses on the systems biology of cancer, as well as on personalized diagnostics and treatment using artificial intelligence. In 2019, he received the prestigious Äyräpää Prize awarded by the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim.

He joins the Board as a new member, succeeding Dr. Jaakko Niinimäki, who has served on the Board for nine years. Dr. Niinimäki is Chief Radiologist of the Imaging Services Division at the Northern Ostrobothnia Hospital District and a part-time Professor of Radiology at the University of Oulu.
